History

Nonono was born [redacted], the daughter of a rich Garlean merchant family. His mother's family is from Ul'dah and his father's family is involved in luxury imports between Garlemald and Eorzea. Nono eschewed the traditional role he was taught as a pawn of his father's family's politics. Caught between an arranged marriage and military conscription, Nono faked his own death and escaped to Ul'dah with a new (and truer to himself) identity, where he lived with his maternal aunt until joining the Scions. He currently lives on his own and works at the Garlond Ironworks.
Nono also has the Echo, which awoke shortly after his rebellion from his family, and aided him well in escaping. He is proficient in a fight, but would honestly rather not, as his personal politics are very pacifist (part of why he abhorred his upbringing in Garlemald). That said, he will not hesitate to help when asked, and very often will go out of his way for work that might be interesting (or pay a bit more, to support his lavish lifestyle).
As for his place in the WoL's story, Nono is often there nearby Valentyne. His journey during ARR is much different, as he had come to Eorzea by other means and only ended up working at the Ironworks through connections of his aunt's. It is through this job that he became associated with the Scions and joined himself to their cause towards the end of ARR. He becomes friends with many of the Scions in addition to his coworkers, and also befriends Val (the WoL) as they both share an interest in the gunblade. He travels with them to Coerthas in HW, and to Hingashi during SB. He also goes to the First, Sharlayan, and Tuliyollal and Solution Nine.
In HW, he spends most of his time at the Skysteel Manufactory studying under Stephanivien, and is thus less involved in the Dragonsong War until Azys Lla. This is mostly due to him just working, and being sent to wherever he's asked, with some personal time to pursue studying.
During SB, he stays in Kugane to "study the blade" (and the food), and does not travel back to Eorzea until he is called back near the end of the war to help with the final battle in Ala Mhigo. He takes a short leave of absence from the Ironworks to stay in the East, choosing to spend his time learning new skills unrelated to engineering for once. After the war, he is deeply involved in the Omega story with the other Ironworks members, as he works closely with Biggs and Wedge and Jesse under Cid and Nero.
For ShB, Nono ends up going to the First with Val. He was working in Syrcus Trench when they went to investigate the clue the Exarch had sent for the WoL, and they were both touching the artifact when Val was pulled across the Rift. In Norvrandt, Nono spends most of his time between the Crystarium (and Lakeland) and Kholusia, as he is fascinated with the technology they have on this shard. He finds Eulmore to be nauseatingly similar to the upper class lifestyle he grew up with in Garlemald (at least the high society his father tried to force him into), but the Dwarves were welcoming to another tinker of their stature. He was the one who befriended Anogg and Konogg and pulled Val into the YoRHa story to explore with him. He is able to fight sin eaters much the same way the WoL is, and is therefore asked to accompany them at times, though he pleads to stay and study engineering the best he can to be able to bring technology back to the Ironworks. Eventually, he is able to travel back to the Source with Val.In EnW, Nono travels to Sharlayan with the not-Scions as the Ironworks' envoy, and thus remains in the city stuck doing work for much of the early story. He does not travel to Radz, and instead works jointly with Krile to secure work and entry to some classes at the Studium (non-degree seeking). He is quite busy until it is time for the Garlond Ironworks to join up wth the Grand Companies and invade Garlemald. It is important to note that until this time, not a soul among the Scions or Ironworks knows that Nono is not an Ul'dah native. During the infiltration of Islabard and encounters with Garleans, it becomes apparent to those close to him that Nono may not be who he claims. He avoids Jullus and many of the soldiers, preferring to only speak with his own coworkers. Upon reaching the city proper and seeing the destruction the Telophoroi have wrought upon his home, he loses all pretense of appearance and runs off. Nono has not seen his family since he left, and after finding his parents' home and neighborhood and his old loft building completely wrecked, he cannot help but have a breakdown. Val finds him and brings him back to Tertium, where he confesses everything. He had grown up in this city and had run away, and has always feared fighting the Garleans because he could have known someone under those helms. Sure enough, Jullus comes up and stops dead in his tracks upon finally seeing Nono, who cuts him off before he can call him by his deadname and reveal more than he wanted known. They had been classmates years ago, and he was told of his untimely death through their mutual acquaintances. Nono asks for some time alone after talking to Jullus, and later comes out of seclusion from a train car to ask others if they have any information about his family. As much as he loathed his father, he still wishes to know what happened to him and his mother and younger sisters. He spends most of the rest of the expansion between Sharlayan as needed, and Garlemald helping with the restoration while searching for his family. He has found that his father was tempered and killed along with other politicians (seems like his wish to get into government came true at the worst time, though one sister had been married off in Nono's stead to achieve such a goal). His mother and other sister are as of yet unaccounted for, but signs point to them having left the capitol before the Civil War. He wishes to see his homeland rebuilt, but still finds it difficult to see himself as Garlean after spending years trying to cast off that mantle. He tries his best to bridge the differences between his countrymen and his newer companions from Eorzea and former colonies. When the Final Days begins, he is in Garlemald and fights alongside Jullus. He is aware of the true nature, as he is in the Linkpearl with the main cast, but remains in Garlemald until he returns to Sharlayan to help the engineering team ready the Ragnarok. Following Val saving the universe, Nono returns to Garlemald to help, taking a short sabbatical from his work at the Ironworks, which his bosses understand as they are all interested in the future of their home country. For DT, Nono chooses to visit Tural as well, but he goes alongside Thancred and Urianger to support Koana. As an engineer, he naturally found the Prince who championed bringing innovation and technology to his homeland. However, during the early part of the Rite of Succession, Nono elects to stay in Tuliyollal to help Koana's faction in education and running workshops, rather than travel Yok Tural. He does head north later when he hears about the train in Xak Tural, and is thus with the group when the incident happens in Shaaloani. He then travels to Heritage Found with the main Scions, and ends up in Solution Nine. He if absolutely blown away by the technology in the city, and sets about finding out how to study electrope. The Scions understand that they need someone to learn about this technology, so they allow him this as they go about plotting their revolt with Cahciua; however, he is introduced to her team eventually, and learns from them as well. Nono does fight once Zoraal Ja turns against the city, but he does not follow them to their final battle, nor does he go to Living Memory, though he hears of it afterwards and is amazed and terrified by the power of tech. Following the events of the main story, Nono throws himself into learning as much as he can about electrope in Everkeep, as he hopes to adapt some of their tech to be useable with ceruleum for the rebuilding of Garlemald. He also frequently visits the railroad company in Shaaloani, as he has a personal interest in trains (as any engineer would). It is important to note that Nono only has a bit more knowledge of the Ascians and Ancients than most of the lesser Scions, which is to say he's seen Lahabrea possess Thancred, encountered Emet-Selch on the First with everyone else (as well as Elidibus), but he only knows of the Ancients through what's been shared with him (think about as much as Krile and Cid/Nero have shared with him, or that he's overheard in the Linkpearl).
